Why?

The Sensuous Society? As critical theory (Marx, Frankfurter school, Neo-Marxism) has pointed at the economic system has governed and dominated Western society since the industrialization. Thus, economic premises such as efficiency, duty, and discipline have largely dominated everyday life in western society, and offered themselves as primary modes. However, the governance is not sustainable as the ecological and economic crisis points at these days and it has lead to a fundamental de-enchantment of the life-world of modern man, as emphasized by Weber and the early Frankfurt School.

The Societal Institutions: If we understand society as constituted by societal institutions, as indicated by social sciences throughout the last centuries, we have the: economic, political, artistic and religious sphere and within these institutions that constitute society. With the dominance of the economic sphere all parts of Western society, have been more or less defined by economic premises.

Aesthetic Intervention into the societal institutions: But its time has come. In opposition to the economic milestone stands the artistic or rather aesthetic. As defined by Baumgarten and the aesthetic philosophy following him (e.g. Kant, Nietzsche, Marcuse, Adorno and Horkheimer), art is the quintessence of an aesthetic mode of being the world. This mode is based on premises such as: phantasy, desire and not at least the sensuous experience of and engagement in the world. Thus the aesthetic dimension will serve as a key source of inspiration in The Sensuous Society. Step by step those engaged in the movement toward The Sensuous Society will make interventions into the societal institutions. Ultimately these actions will however not be encapsulated spaces allowing a sensuous mode of being in the world, but will constitute the primary mode itself.
